Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy

If you have tried several types of therapies and/or medications with only limited or temporary symptom relief and still feel “stuck”, Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy might be right for you.

Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is, in the most basic terms, an extended session of psychotherapy with medication to aid in calming your body. When prescribed by a physician and taken at a low dose in conjunction with psychotherapy, it has been shown effective in the treatment of depression, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), some types of anxiety and chronic pain.

Getting Started

Setting up your initial consultation

The initial consultation will gather some general information about your treatment needs and you’ll be given information for the psychiatric provider that I partner with.

Medication Consultation

I partner with Skylight Psychedelics as the medical provider for KAP. They will gather detailed information about your medical and psychiatric history to ensure that you are healthy enough to take ketamine. They will also discuss dosage levels, side effects and answer any medication-specific questions that you have. The provider is the only person to prescribe and modify your ketamine.

Intake Interview

After Skylight Psychedelics has approved you for ketamine treatment by the psychiatric provider, you’ll meet with me to do an intake interview. At this time, a detailed history will be gathered and we will work together to create a program tailored to you.

What to Expect

Planning

We will work together over two to three sessions to plan your dosing sessions and starting points for exploration. These appointments will focus on preparing you for the “feeling” of ketamine and what to expect after medication sessions. This is also the time to confirm your aftercare plans.

Integration

Within a week of each dosing session, integration therapy sessions will take place. During these appointments, we will explore your recent session, process emotions and memories that came up and integrate these experiences into your personal narrative and history. This is a critical part of ketamine work.

Dosing

The exact number of dosing/medication sessions will depend on your individualized treatment plan, goals and the time you can commit to treatment. In general, four to six weekly sessions are recommended.
